Re: Soundtoys AAX news...
We will upgrade all of Sound Toys bundles ONLY IF the do DSP - we have 8 bundles right now and two more systems that will need them.
NO DSP this is how many non-AAX-DSP bundles we will upgrade. ZERO! |

You should post this on their facebook page to put pressure on them. I'm shure they will make AAX DSP. There is hope... Cheers, Luc |

Re: Soundtoys AAX news...
Wow, I thing my upgrade to HDX will have to wait longer then I expected, and much longer then AVID expected me to do...

Re: Soundtoys AAX news...
Just don't know if I could let go of them. One of the few software companies I truly enjoy all their products and look forward to new ones. I honestly can't see them letting the aax market slip away from them

Re: Soundtoys AAX news...
I agree Soundtoys makes some great plugins. The real consideration that many companies are faced with is host based power in two years when PT11 is real, established and pertinent. With the roadmap that Intel is beginning to crank up I feel that the HDX sales will suffer greatly. HDX is better on paper now and for a little while longer if Avid does not cripple the Native systems. The writing on the wall however was there before the release of Avid's latest greatest offering. Latency issues aside, there are growing pains for both camps but in the end Native will be the market that dominates and perhaps the only one to survive. With AAX being the same code in both forms and the incredibly powerful CPUs on there way and perhaps future node sharing, why invest in HDX? Yes I took an Ambien before typing this so don't flame me but consider how efficient PT11 will be! A complete new rewrite, not a patched system. With this clean and lean new 64 bit system and Intel's new processors your going to have amazing native performance. SMILE!

I'm surprised Soundtoys has been lagging behind on aax. I have found alternatives to all of their plug-ins. |

If porting was so simple then why has avid not ported all their software? also if Avid was creating a new DAW then why did they not make it so it could run legacy software? Would Microsoft or apple release a new OS that would not run old applications? Such changes did happen with apple when they moved from PPC to Intel! But Avid is not Apple! avid decided to make all the legacy software useless by changing the DSP. They where hoping they could convince all the developers to write new software and they clearly did not foresee the problem they created. the situation really sucks for everyone in the industry. aaxdsp is never going to be a market like TDM. There will never be as many tools and selection as was in the Legacy TDM! New DSP developers will also suffer as after they invest in HDX they will see weak sales. Most of the DAW engineers really do not need DSP. Unlike 10 or more years ago, today it is possible to do almost everything natively. the market size today of people who need DSP is much smaller then it was 10 years ago. I think Avid failed to realize this! avid could have created a new platform based on legacy DSP while still enabling increased track count. but Avid shot itself in the foot by a simple engineering decision that seems trivial but has big ramifications. |

Re: Soundtoys AAX news...
Like it or not, Apple and Microsoft are dictating that everything move to 64 bit memory addressing. That's where you need to look for planned obsolescence. Avid really has no choice in the matter and their twenty-year old RTAS and TDM technology are not compatible with 64 bit memory addressing.

If you don't believe me, just take a look at this website for windows 7, you'll be surprised. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/com...s/default.aspx It's to the company that makes the program to make sure it's compatible with the new hardware and os's, not the other way around. So in this case, it's up to the third parties plugin makers/hardware maker, to make sure their gear works with Pro tools and the new computer hardwares, not Avid. Quote:
