You're talking about the technique popularized by DJ Screw called "screwing" tracks, which originally was just slowing down the tracks, but copying the technique has led some to just pitch shift the tracks down.

You can use the DigiRack pitch shift to do both.

So you don't understand "Pitch Shift"?

Select the region you want to "screw"
Select the Pitch Shift plugin from the Audiosuite menu
Adjust the coarse setting to a negative semitone (how much or how little is your personal preference)
click preview to check the settings
click process to process the region.

That's pretty much it. Getting it to sound exactly like you want it to is up to you.

I would actually recommend using the new Time Shift plugin for this if you have it installed (most people using newer versions of Pro Tools do).

Keep in mind that you are actually changing the tuning when doing this, so if you are doing it on tracks that actually have a melody, and not just spoken or rapped, it will change the pitch so that it will no longer be in key.

If you want to do this without changing the pitch, you will have to use one of the vocal plugins that can change the formant, like Antares Avox or Celemony Melodyne. Using those correctly would require too much instruction for a quick tutorial here, though.

You can chop and screw in Pro Toolz but that aint how they do it in the studio. PT is a recording platform. To chop and screw you need to sample the audio first and use either a MPC or Reason's NN-19 sampler so you can control the pitch and the ability to control it thru your keyboard for repitition; like the King Kong song..(If ya hear me fo ya see me I got King Kong in da trunk)...if you dont know what I'm talking about then nevermind; some hood rich stuff is just the unwritten ghetto code.lol..hollatchaboy

Or you could do a blend of Melodyne and Pitch Shift, Serato PnT (Pitch n Time), AutoTunes Formant automation tweaking, whatever you think screwed should be for the tracks sound.
