Are you keeping your 001?

I have an 001 system that is serving my needs quite well right now. However, being the equipment monkey that I am I am planning on upgrading to an 002r system in the next 6 -8 months. I assume there are many other people with similar situations and I was wondering what they plan on doing with their old 001. Personally, I will probably keep it running on a second machine as a backup and for use with my video editing bay.

I was just curious about what other people's thoughts are on this. Selling it, keeping it and using it, paperweight, etc..... [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

I am thinking that the 02R racked up with a few other essentials (BBE, Mic Pre, drawer full of cables & mics... ) would make for a very impressive portable unit paired up with a Lap-Top & FireWire....

I am such a gear junky.

I'll also keep my 01 - why not, it's a great tool to have as well.

I'm keeping my 001 until the rackmount hardware piece dies, (which will hopefully not be anytime soon) and go from there. There really isn't much difference between the 001 and 002R is there? Firewire, 96Khz on a couple channels and 2 more preamps? Thats not enough to make me switch.

i bypass the 001 and just use it's Digital I/O anyway, so there's no need to go to 002. besides, there's a performance drop with the 002, so definitely no need to change.

i will get a 002R when i get a laptop, as then it'll be necessary.

but i'll still keep my 001, and have it still in my main Audio desktop comp.

I sure would like to use the 96Khz on my Lucid AD9624. I hope Digi makes the Mbox do 96khz real soon, It would totaly suck if they didn't.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Same here. I can't afford it anyway, but from what I've heard, 96k is overrated, takes a lot more power, blah, blah, blah.

Also, Anything in the 1K+ range, I'd probably be more into buying better pres and so on over time, those you can use no matter what you have down the road, at least that's why the better pres and converters aren't really attractive to me on the 002r.

Too costly for what it will give me.
The 96k would be very expensive to my setup:
my (2) 01v's can't do it
my Rosetta is the 48k version (I miss the PSX-100)
my Digital Timepiece can't do it
my BF Classic Compressors are the 48k versions
my 2408 is not a mkIII
lots ot 48k SPDIF gear
That's a lot to have to deal with when you have a setup that works well for you.
Still I will be going to 6.1 within the next 30 days depending on how the schedule cleans up.

This was my thought process:

002R is $1089 from Boynton Pro Audio.

Sell your 001 for $600. Save the $100 for 6.1 upgrade you were going to spend anyway. Spend $400 for a 002R and keep up with the times.

-or-

Spend the $100 for the upgrade, wait, sell your 001 when no one wants it or has PCI slots to use it in anyway.

So, I sold a few other items not being used and love the 002R. [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img]

BTW: the upgrade for the Rosetta isn't all that expensive.

Apple's new G5 (and i'm assuming anything else that comes out from now on) use PCI-X, which is faster, but it is backward compatible.

On the PC side, Microsoft is going to fully embrace (cold turkey drop PCI support for it) a new format by Intel called PCI express, which is shaped completely differently (and not backward compat). this is to be included, along with palladium or whatever, in a new version of windows, currently called project longhorn.

i read this in Sound on Sound magazine a few months ago, and they had a picture of the new PCI express thing. looked really weird.

I'm an ex-001 user , current 002R.
Reason to switch: Portability and maybe some 96khz but not really...

The 001 is superior in reliability with pre 6.1 software. the 002R is still far from being perfect or stable to my opinion although it looks better and sound better.

18ins/outs on both with 48khz top no true differecne.

Switch only if you consider going portable [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img] .
