Default Can I get drum sound on the click track?

Is there a way in PT12 to get a drum beat instead of those annoying clicks on the click track? Or does that require some extra plugin, and If so, is there one for free out there?

You can change the click sound, but not a drum beat, that's not what it's meant for.

You could use Boom, which is included with Pro Tools, and setup a simple drum beat.

Or you could use a drum VI like BFD3, set it to play a pallet (or drum track) and use that to keep time.

Fast and simple:

Load Boom (or your preferred VI) and make a a kick drum pattern (1 measure is more than enough) and duplicate to the (potential length) of the session.

I am unaware of a click track plugin that lets you load other samples but then again I could not have looked hard enough

Benoni beat me to it

I use Arturia or EZdrummer with a simple loop of shaker(usually)

You can also set up a midi track which would be connected to your midi keyboard and use your sounds there. You would have to set up an aux too. Maybe a little to much work

… a shame avid didn't port over TL Metro;
since you could add your own samples…

TL Metro along with the PT Click have an issue i found many many years ago and has not been fixed or changed ..

the samples that are able to be used are Trunacated to 150 samples .. that is the transient ONLY .. no decay so it becomes a very harsh sound in head phones ..

for years i have done something similar to what was mentioned by someone above ...

make a drum groove from a few sounds you like .. kick, snare, hat etc ... build your click for Life .. have it in a session that you can import session data from .. you can create 4/4, 3/4, 5/4 ... etc ... then import what you need for that session .. takes about an hour to make something that will last forever .. or until Avid changes the File Format again ..

I usually sequence/quantize a bare-bones basic drum track. Easier for most people to hang with than a click.

I have tried a couple of things that work well for me: you can use a Midi controller board or any keyboard with Midi ports and load drum loop plugins for BOOM, XPAND!2 or Komplete Ultimate 10. Lock-in something you like with Midi tempo set and controlled by ProTools ... then just press a keyboard key that corresponds to the loop pattern you like ... there are typical several keys to choose from. I have done this in many songs ... then I found that I could import session data (individual tracks from various songs) into a session where each track is a different drum loop! Now I just use that track as a session template ... Import what I want from it ... And I'm off and running with a fantastic click track / starter drums that I can add / synch more drums and percussion ... alter the tempo ... Etc! Let me know how you make out and if you need additional support. Brother Reggie
