Best Amp Sims?
Guys,
What are opinions on best sounding amp sims for the price. I was excited about Eleven when it came out. How does it compare to SansAmp? Amplitube? Others? appreciate any feedback guys TDub

Re: Best Amp Sims?
I actually like my bass "clean" through my preamp best. I think SansAmp is the best of the three. Is sounds good and is very light on the computer. But I have not tried the full version of Eleven.

Re: Best Amp Sims?
I like SansAmp too. I bought it back when it actually cost something. Check out a demo of GTR from Waves, it's my new favorite.

Re: Best Amp Sims?
I like (and use) Eleven for Guitars, SansAMP for Bass.
I was not so excited about GTR from Waves, but it's a matter of taste, I guess. Try the Demos and judge for yourself. Andy |

Re: Best Amp Sims?
POD Farm has a really cool interface with tons of effects, and it's half the price of Eleven. You can try it out for free for 15 days, as long as you have an Ilok.

Re: Best Amp Sims?
Ditto. Have guitar rig3, it's so so IMO. If I didn't have neighbours on the other side of the wall I'd bin the amp sim and get a real amp, but hey ho, needs must.

Re: Best Amp Sims?
All of these have free demos so I would try them all. There is no one size fits all Amp Sim and you favorite will end up being based on what genre your working with and your personal taste. Often one Amp Sim does better than others on certain things. A lot of folks have been using combinations like Eleven with the effects from GTR.
IMO all of them are much better than the used to be. The best one is the one that sounds the best with your gear on your music. Use your ears and keep in mind what sounds great by itself may not sit well in the mix.

Re: Best Amp Sims?
All very true. I use these things to add subtlety to guitars already close to where I want them via amps and mics, mostly for cleaner sounds. To use these sims’ entirely in place of amplifiers is not something I do, so I am not the best advisor about that.

Re: Best Amp Sims?
Talking from an engineer's POV (I don't play guitar) I love Sansamp on many things guitar, bass, vocals, drum loops, I'll try it on anything. The input gain knob has the best sounding distortion of the 6 available knobs. Though the Sansamp sound always has a bit of 'midrange only' feel, it still works good in the mix.
On guitars, for more conventional sound I've been using GTR 3 more and more lately, especially since I discovered it had great presets. You can move fast from a 'dirty yet clean' sound to some crazy fx patch till you find the style your looking for and then just tweak it from there. The individual pedals in GTR are also useful on other stuff like synths/drums/vocal samples. Amplitube is solid for some styles. I have used it a few times, but it can sound a it cheap.

Re: Best Amp Sims?
Any thoughts about Chrome Tone of McDSP? As a pre emulation? I prefer using impulses for amp emulations, but I'm thinking about this plugin. Is it good for modern distortion emulation? Like Meshuggah, Dream Theatre kinda of style?
