Default Why are the 882 converters calibrated to -14dbFS?

The 888/24 has screws to calibrate it yourself but they came from the factory at -18. The 882 interfaces are all at -14 with no way to change it. Why did they decide on -14 instead of -18?

the cheap option always has a gotcha
the 96 i/O s were the same way

designed to cater to the "home" user that wanted more level
