Quicktime files compability with PT 7.3 LE without DV tk2
I have imported some QT-files into PT-sessions without problems.
A friend of mine works with Avid but when I try to import his files, PT crashes. Is Digitranslator needed for this? Thank you |

If the movie file is PAL 25 fps, DV Toolkit shouldn't have any bearing on this.
Do you have QT Pro? If so, just export via that as another codec type and see if that fixes the problem... If not, post back. |

I had not problems with the digidesign QT-files, packed with the 101 course. |

Re: Quicktime files compability with PT 7.3 LE without DV tk2
It´s very difficult to help you if you don´t provide the info about what kind of QT-codec is causing the issue. QT is just a container-format for a huge amount of different codecs.
PT should play most of them but some are not recommended. Open the QT in question in the QT-player (not PT) and hit apple-i. The window will give you the info what actual format your QT is. If you have an un-supported QT you can transcode it with QTpro. These shouldn´t cause any issues: DV MJPEG Frank.

Re: Quicktime files compability with PT 7.3 LE without DV tk2
If your editor is outputing files in AVID codecs, such as the AVID DV codec or one of their other codecs, you won't be able to do much with the files even in QT PRO. You can check the codec by opening the movie in QT and choosing "Get Movie Info". If it shows up as AVID DV or another AVID codec, you can go here and download the Avid codecs. You should then be able to re-encode the movie for your use. Even with the codecs installed the movie may not play well in ProTools so you should re-encode.

Thanks, since downloading and installing the AVID codecs, everything works fine!
