Default PT9, Win 7 64 bit & "Creating DAE Objects" freeze

Hi everyone, like a lot of people (I guess) I've been lured back to Protools with the introduction of PT9. I also used it as an incentive to upgrade my O/S to Win 7, 64 bit- previously I used PT8 on XP, but a hardware change to a Presonus Fireststudio Tube brought about my "defection" away from PT.

I've apparently installed PT9 correctly, though with the issue below I tried a complete uninstall and re-install already...

On start-up PT is freezing on "Creating DAE Objects"- an old problem, I know. The thing is, trashing preferences doesn't seem to be an option as I don't have a "Volumes" folder inside my Databases folder or a DAE folder inside the Program Files/Digidesign folder. I don't know if this is because of a flawed installation or a normal condition of a PT9/Win7 setup. Plus, because of Win7 I have IE8 on my system... but surely AVID fixed that incompatibility between IE8 and PT with PT9?

I've done the usual Win tweaks, turned off DEP and UAC, etc... and I've tried launching PT9 with and without my interface connected.

Any ideas, folks?

Man, this could be a number of things, but first, a shot in the dark.....

Are you turning your interface on BEFORE your PC? If not, try that.

Follow optimization guidelines, and if you did, post a Sandra Report to see what your using.

Yeah, I realise it's a bit of a "quick question" with a million potential answers... I've tried booting up and turning on all devices in various ways- no go. At this point I'm puzzled about those missing folders- in particular the DAE Preferences folders. Even a search didn't find them.

By the way, this is currently a dual-boot system with my previous XP install on another drive, but that shouldn't be a problem. It might add a few puzzling things into the Sandra Report, though.

Okay Sandra Report...

Start with the Maxtor. Disconnect it.

Check if your Nvidia drivers are up to date.

I see you have games installed on this PC, do you have different hardware profiles? Surely the games and PT cannot live peacefully together with the same configuration.

Im guessing that your ASUS motherboard's firewire port is good to go, but cant say the same about the lucent. Try connecting your interface to the motherboard firewire port, and disable the other.

FireWire/1394 Controller 1 : Lucent/Agere Systems (Was: AT&T MicroElectronics) FW322/323 IEEE1394 OHCI FireWire Controller
FireWire/1394 Controller 2 : ASUS VT6306 VIA Fire II IEEE-1394 OHCI Link Layer Controller

Disable your network card.

Run optimizations again, just to be sure. Pay attention to msconfig when disabling services, follow guidelines.

Are you running as ADMIN?

Power on Interface first, then PC.

If your system keeps hanging at "Creating DAE Objects" try powering off the interface before restarting or forcing PT to quit, PT might just tell you there is no present interface and shut down on its own. If this is the case there is something interfering with your interface / PC communication.

Cheers C9, I'll try all these. But just a quick question... when you say "run" optimisations again, are you saying there is an application or program that does this? Because I just work my way through the lists of suggested tweaks, etc and see what works and what doesn't.
Is there a specific .exe process?

Ah... got everything up and running by disconnecting the Firestudio Tube, downloading the MBox2 drivers and connecting THAT, before launching PT9.

So it's an issue with the FST, its drivers or whatever...

I've hit the Presonus forums to see if anyone has a similar combination actually working.
