Default need some LE help please, computer has gone haywire

Hi,

LE 8.0.4 seemed to be working great! (Win XP home, 32bit) then I installed some of those routine 'windows security updates' and the first thing that seemed odd was I noticed was my internet browser was running slow and unpredictable.

Then LE8 started having serious issues.

Coincidence? I'm not sure.

I am now frequently getting while working in LE8:

Could not complete the exit command
Access violation unable to read 0x985D4424 at 0x7C910A1B

also,

MS Visual C++ runtime library:
Runtime error
This application has requested the runtime to terminate n an unusual way

also,

I get occasional access violation errors when trying to open some plug ins.

I re installed the 8.0.4 upgrade and it seemed to be a little better.

I cannot perform a system restore as I had restore switched off as recommended by most 'optimize your computer for audio production' web articles. I am sure that would fix this problem.

Does anyone ave any ideas as to what I can do? Should I tr a Windows re install....that's all I can think of at this point

thanks for any advice.
(I'll try to post a sandra report)

Try uninstalling the hotfixes. If you go into Add/Remove Programs and check the checkbox to show updates, you'll see all the Windows Updates that are installed. I can't remember if they indicate the install dates, but it's worth a try.

Did one of these updates install IE8? If so, you should dump it and go back to IE7. Or restore your system to a drive image you saved BEFORE doing the updates(if you don't know what I mean, go buy a copy of Acronis True Image and allow it to save you tons of frustration).

thanks,

yeah I know what you mean but have never used driver image sofware before. Sounds like a good investment.

I have used Cakewalk for 10 years and never had a problemn that I couldn't fix (Cake software has been very stable anyway over the years).

I only ever download the security updates, I have IE7 but have always used firefox until recently when it started to behave erratically and then I went back to using IE7 with no problems.

I vowed that I would not use this computer for general computing or to go on line with but ended up doing so. Lesson learned!

I just posted a new thread regarding a problem I saw in device manager that may be the cause of all this.
