switching sessions - delay on playback?

I've found that when I open a fairly large session (w/ video), close it, then open a completely different large session (w/ video), playback takes up to 4 seconds after I've hit the spacebar. The work-around is to completely close down PT and re-launch. Is there some kind of cache that's getting filled that I can clear? I'm on PC (quad-core 2.4 GHz, 2 GB ram), PT 8.0cs2.
