Default Plugins for S3L, 32bit vs 64bit?

I'm a bit confused what plugins can we use on our sparkling new consoles. I assumed they just must be AAX DSP but what about the bits? Are 32 bit and 64 bit plugins different? If the system runs 32 bit plugins does that mean that if a plugin is 64 bit I can't use it? Some clarification would be good.

Hi Kristo,

The plug-ins that ship with the system are currently 32-bit. We'll be qualifying more plug-ins from Avid and other developers as time goes on.

Thanks Sheldon. This rises another question, as you talk about plugins that ship with the system.. does that mean we are no longer able to exit to desktop and install third party plugins ourselves?

With S3L, you're still able to exit to desktop and install PIs - as usual.

Thats what I thought, actually having all the missing parts like cables together by today and then I can test everything on my own console

btw, DVI to VGA does not work with S3L for some reason. So your screen needs to have DVI!

Hi guys,

I strongly recommend you do NOT manually install plug-ins that are not qualified with S3L. It's likely that some plug-ins will not work as expected until they've been through the qualification process. It's not worth risking your reputation or a show on an untested setup.

This sounds serious.. Where will the verified plugins list be published? I for one would love to start doing shows with the new tool ASAP, but what comes with the desk will get me only half the way.

Hi Kristo,

Better safe than sorry.

Plug-ins will be added to the main plug-in finder here: http://www.avid.com/plugins

Choose the "AAX VENUE" filter to see what's been officially qualified.

DVI on S3L is DVI-D, i.e. digital-only. So DVI-to-VGA converters won't work.

So, has someone got some plugins running on S3L in addition to what it comes with?

Avid, please hurry up! We are missing some basic stuff like D-Verb, Smack!, PSA-1 but it would make sense to see all the VENUEPack4 plugins running on the new desk.
