RESET then PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error- HELP
My system resets occasionally and upon coming back up I get the "Blue screen of death" with the following error:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA I plan on attacking this problem tonight and have the following plan of attack in mind following each step if the previous step doesn't remedy the problem.. - Restore Default BIOS Setting - Repair windows - repair PTLE - remove digi001 & remove PTLE - Reinstall windows then reinstall PTLE & 001. Can anybody let me know of any steps I should try in between? Or anything that might remedy this problem all together? Has anybody had/seen this problem? Thanx in advance! - GAPE Ps. Nothing about this on the answerbase.. |

Re: RESET then PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error- HELP
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
The "nonpaged area" is typically used only for critical parts of the operating system. Windows is trying to retrieve a chunk of memory that is supposed to be there at all times, never to be "paged out." The most likely cause for such an error is--I hate to say it--bad RAM. Find a way to test your RAM. If you have two or more sticks, try switching their order in the slots, or run without one to see which stick is causing the problem. Another possibility is that something is loose in a slot. Try re-seating all your PCI and AGP cards and your RAM sticks. I seem to have to do this about once a year anyhow becuase things just seem to move around after a while and I start getting strange errors. Re-seating all my cards always seems to take care of the strange and unexplained problems. I just did this yesterday to fix some new video driver errors (been working fine for months!), and it seems to have worked. It is also possible that a poorly written program or driver is stealing a chunk of RAM from the nonpaged area. That's highly unlikely, but I suppose it's still possible. My main suspicions are either bad RAM or poorly seated cards/RAM. Good luck. Mike

Re: RESET then PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error- HELP
I firmly pushed in all of my cards and memory and the problem still persists.
Also, I have a 512MB stick of RAM so I can't try the "1 vs the other" RAM tests. Does anybody know of any way to test my RAM? - GAPE |

Re: RESET then PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error- HELP
You may also want to try taking out the ram and bringing it to one of the computer recycler places. Many if not most of them have outboard hardware based RAM testers that check the status and integrity of each register. Some also perform a sort of test run of the ram to see if it has any memory "leaks".
