Default File Size Limits

Has anyone else noticed that ProTools _still_ has a 2Gb file size limit? It's not a problem that many people come up with, but I just experienced it while recording a concert the other night. At 96/24, that leaves 2 hours, 3 minutes and change. It was almost by luck that the encore break was at 1:55.

Anyone know if this will be fixed in 7? After all, Apple fixed their part a few years ago - so lets all get on the band wagon.

Also, anyone else noticed that track counts per FW drive go way down when locked to time code? Very curious that...

Maximum file size for a BWAV is 4GB but PT only supports 2GB. Also in the file import PT won´t recognize BWAVs larger than 2GB.

PRoblem with 4GB files is that a mono 48k, 16bit file of 4GB is 12hours and 25minutes long and won´t fit into a PT session.

Right, but I'm not worried about a 4 Gig file not fitting into a session, I'm more concerned that a 2 Gb limit means 2 Hrs for 96/24, and 1 hour for 192/24. I've not had a client ask for 192 yet, but who can tell? When that day comes, I'd like to not have to "change tapes" while doing a live recording. At least broadcast has commercials, but who knows?

It comes down to antiquated limits, and I'm hoping someone at Digi will read this and fix it, which will be appreciated by many, or at least me...

digi should make a seemless changeover function like the NL location recorders. For example the sound devices 744T will automatically continue recording to a new file when a desired filelength is reached. Later these files can me put back together without losing a sample. in addition these machines offer a pre-record buffer so you can actually stop the recording and press play again without losing audio.
