External Hard Drive for PC Laptop
Hi,
I am running Pro Tools 8 and have been putting off getting an external hard drive but now need to sort as my Acer PC laptop hard drive is getting full. I have been doing a bit of research (and feeling confused) and was thinking the following looked good. Before I take the plunge, could someone confirm that this will be suitable to work from and record onto: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Avastor-exte.../dp/B0015U83FI If anyone has a better suggestion, please let me know too.. Thanks, Martino |

I would look for external drives from manufacturers like Glyph, G-Tech, OWC or Lacie. But even then you have to make sure the HDD is at least 7,200 rpm. Avastor is another brand that DAW users will use. With any of these quad interface etc. drives you are paying for that, if you only need USB3 there is more to choose from but you need to look at the drive specs. Generally avoid external drives from Western Digital or Seagate. They seem convinced that the goal is to market their lowest-performance crap drives to consumers and try as hard as possible to obfuscate the actual performance specs. |

Re: External Hard Drive for PC Laptop
The other comment here is if you care about performance or just want better robustness than a HDD then go SSD. There are choices there from Lacie and others, or install a Samsung 840 Pro or Evo SSD. in an external USD3 caddy.
e.g. I would buy this any day over the external HDD first mentioned..., http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B009HQKQMA or see the similar 256GB version. |
