Default Moving to Vista Laptop and discovered a problem

My desktop Windows XP computer is old and clunky so I went out and bought a new HP laptop, however it is running Vista 64. I can see that Pro Tools does not support Windows 64 at all.

Am I hosed? or is Digi working on offering support for Vista 64? I'd really love to be able to use my mBox and totally replace this old desktop computer with something that's more portable.

Since you just bought it, check with HP regarding a "downgrade" to XP.
I'm assuming you verified that the laptop contains compatible hardware...?

That was my first thought. I hope so, indeed.

be careful...I bought an HP dv6000 several months ago for portable DAW use for whatever, and exactly NONE of the peripherals (IE FW chipset) are compatable with anything remotely audio (pun intended),,,no DAW PT or otherwise runs on this machine

Downgrading to XP may or may NOT solve anything...you may be better off saving some pennies up until you get to a Macbook or similar - and don't forget the SIIG PCIe FW card...

Ask the store you bought it from about returns, some, like Fry's offer 15 days.

Yes, luckily I only bought this less than a week ago from Costco and should be able to get it returned. I tried in vain to (on a spare hard drive) do an XP downgrade, but it appears this machine is just not downgradable.

Are there any laptop makers out there who are still offering machines with XP. I would like to get a fast machine that can accept 2 internal hard drives. Any recommendations?

It pains me to say... this is where I would also consider a Mac. The compatible PC laptops that really crank are not cheap.

Is this because of price, or prefference?

Give us some examples anyway.
