Default quick punch problems

I am running mpowerd pro tools8, with SIIG firewire pci card(that is recommended by pro tools) and a 1T glyph 050 external hard drive. Everything works fine with pro tools8 except when I go to quick punch mode. It will work fine for a couple of punch in & outs and then I get error messages like:
could not complete your request because access violation occured

DAE can't get audio fast enough from hard drives -9073

program is not responding

Thanks
