Hi

I wondering If I use LE for Film Sound do I need DV toolkit? I know DV toolkit allow me use timecode stuff with LE. but I still want to know more about these software. is this software necessaries for me? How's it work? Do I need another hardware? do you have any problem with it?

thanks

You should try the Digi002 forum, this forum is for Command8 posts.

Anyway to answer your question. You do not need DV Toolkit for doing sound for film. It does have the Time Code Ruler, but that's all it is a ruler so you could just go by the H/M/Seconds/msec ruler and do some converting. In 29.97 drop frame, you'd get 29.97 frames for every 1000msec. If you need to you can convert in this way. The Vocalign plugin is usefull though but again I found it to work 40% of the time with no artifacts.

Now here's the real bummer, You cannot do true 5.1 surround in Protools LE. You need a TDM system or Digital Performer to do 5.1

However I've succesfully done numerous movies and commecials in PTLE with and without DV Toolkit. (Retail $1000) you chose. If you want to import OMF files from Avid or FCP, you'll need Digitranslator 2.0 which is included with DV Toolkit, but I found it unusable and always reverted back to exporting complete regions from the editor application and then importing those regions in PT a complete files. Works better IMHO, 'cause OMF exports tend to "Clip" badly when the audio is "Hot" but exporting aiff's works fine. Much cleaner!
