Default 25pin dsub / blue ray

I use an Audient Asp 510 mit dsub 25pin inputs only. I want to check blue ray 5.1 (preferebly theatrical) mixes on my system.

*Can you recommend any specific Blue Ray Player for Playback, and a certain way to connect to the ASP 510?

*Do you know of any DVD's/ Blue Ray Disc with exemplary theatrical mixes?

Any BD player with analogue outs will do. (just do a search on you favourite online store). Or buy a HDMI de-embedder with 7.1 analogue outs.

And then you just need to adapt from RCA to Sub-D (probably via XLR unless you want to solder it yourself)

example:

Just make sure you pick the right pin layout for your desk. (Yamaha or Tascam, your manual will know).

forgot: BDs usually contain a home theatre mix (just like DVDs) not the theatrical version. But maybe someone else knows...

We use Oppo BDP 95 but Oppo stopped manufacturing players a while ago.

So if you a buy a player with integrated line outputs (post internal decoding) you´ll also need some form of balancing unit, to convert unbalanced RCA´s to balanced XLR line level. Active are better, passive will work with around a 6 db loss comparing to regular balanced line levels Examples:

Active:

https://www.tascam.eu/en/la-80_81mk2.html

http://www.sonifex.co.uk/redbox/rbul4_ld.shtml

Passive:

https://www.neutrik.com/en/product/na2f-d2b-tx

The other more expensive way, is to also have a receiver with balanced outs placed in between the player and your Audient.

Since the cables won't be put long distance and i 'only' want to listen to refference mixes, not for QC Blu Ray purpose. It might be reasonable to connect unblanced Rca to dsub, or want do you think?
There are even retailers offering this type of cable:

Hi,

in principle it may work, but please note:

I had a brief look at the 510 specs, the DSub is wired to the (DA88) Tascam format, so you should buy a breakout with the same pinout wiring. From what I could check on another site, the breakout cable you mentioned is wired to the same pinout norm, so it should be OK. But just in case, drop an email at the manufacturer and confirm:

[email protected]

Also, on the 510 user manual (page 5), it´s specified how to connect unbalanced sources to the DSub connector. Basically, by the use of twin shielded cable with pin minus (pin 3) soldered to the shield on the source side (eg. the RCA). This is one common way of doing it.

But I don´t have a clue how the cable you mentioned is wired as they only refer that the balanced side is "disposed" in the correct way.

So, before you spend any money, confirm with manufacturer if the cable is wired to Tascam format and if the unbalancing is done in the same way Audient recommends.

Hope it helps.

Yes. That helped! I‘ll write with the cable guys before ordering.
Also Oppo seems a solid option for BR Player. Thx again.
