For sure
Just reminding folks that there is a difference between the two controllers. This is actually the first time I noticed anyone disparaging the C24's monitor section

It's just not Top Shelf, I am sure it's not that far off from the icon series stuff albeit different

Thanks guys.
I don't have that much high-end gear to test this with, other than go direct analog out from my LS56.
Part of the reason to ask is just to consider buying a better solution.
I have a good offer for a Antilope Satori w/remote, but it's quite expencive.

I really can't complain about the quality of the C24 monitor section. BUT I did notice some Hissing, and have for some time.
My studio is not a Pro setup, so..... I need a easy/good talk-back function with my setup.

Thanks for all the advice. Now on to some thinking....

....

This could be anything from the computer to a bad (poorly grounded) outlet that's running your computer or your C24

This doesn't mean the C24 is the problem

Could be, but it could be a golden unit also....

It could be a cable....say it's never happened?

Well, buying a C24 to get talkback is a total waste of cash IMHO. All you really need is an available mic preamp and the free Muteomatic plugin from Sound Radix. I've been doing this for 3 channels of automated talkback and its been great. CR, drum room and tracking room all can talk to each other and as soon as I hit play, all 3 mics are muted. Hit stop and they come back on instantly. No muss, no fuss (and it beats the heck out of a scratchy or popping TB switch, which happened to my Central Station after a year or so)

I went with a Dangerous D-Box for monitoring and I couldn't be happier. My setup also utilizes a Dangerous 2-Bus LT (plays nice with D-Box) and a couple of HD I/O 16x16 Analog units.

When I first went HDX I seriously considered a used C24 or D-Command but in the end I felt it wasn't worth it. Big, bulky, and last generation. I've got all I need with HD I/O and Dangerous and it's superb quality. For the times I want touch faders for a session, I bought a used Command 8 for $350 and although I expect PT to eventually stop working with it, the investment is small. If I had the budget I would have opted for an S3 as I feel you get a lot of control in a relatively small footprint. I used to think BIGGER was better, not anymore.

I did see Guiter Center online has a used C24 for $2,999 which seems to be cheaper than ebay.

albee1952: I didn't buy the unit because of the talk back, but because it's a giant mouse controller
I have been mixing with a mouse for years, and wanted faders. Got a good deal a couple of years ago and it has worked flawless.

Cool
Its still on my radar as well, but the S3 would fit my desk better
