Default Tiger Bummer

I found this information in the Compatibility section.

The initial release of Pro Tools LE 6.9 will not work with the new Mac OS X version 10.4 "Tiger" operating system.

A free compatibility update for Pro Tools LE 6.9 for Mac OS X 10.4 is expected to be available within 8 to 10 weeks of the 10.4 "Tiger" release.

8 to 10 weeks seems like a very long time to me.

Is this truly how long we will have to wait?

I don't really post much, but this is certainly worth taking the time.

If true, 8-10 weeks is extremely lame. Considering developers have had pre-release versions (seeded up to gold master just a few weeks ago) of Tiger available since last summer, it sounds like laziness will be the culprit of the lag between the Tiger release and PT compatibility.

Seriously, how come all of my other applications have already been updated for Tiger? Somehow they managed to be prepared...I'll try running PTLE in Tiger anyway, but I'm sure Logic will work if PTLE won't.

We'll see this weekend.

tiger and protools six, no way. i'm going to wait for protools seven and continue using panther until that happens... there has never been more stable (and cpu-efficient) protools system on OSX than the combination of panther 10.3.4 and protools 6.4

Tell me about it. I was about to pull the trigger on a brand spankin new G5 dualie when a little voice said to check the compats page. Everything came to a screetching halt when I saw that ten weeks line. Took the wind right out of my sails. Interestingly enough isn't that about the time of the WWDC? Maybe yet another hardware release with Apple and possible the new processors?... Hmmm. How long before MOTU and the rest are compliant? Seems to me the MDD FW800 models were just a quick stop gap before the G5's came out. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

FWIW... I was told by the Apple Store that the new machines will only work with Tiger and not 10.3

The final version of Tiger is changing almost up to the release date and some of those changes can be quite significant, so it's virtually useless to chase a moving target and try to maintain compatibility. There is also a significant test grid that must be gone through so that we can release a compatible version that's as bug-free as possible, which I'm sure you can appreciate.

Considering that OSX10.4.1 will be released in May, I would imagine that Tiger is not finished yet. No way I would to upgrade before then even if PT supported it. I mainly use logic but I will still keep to Panther for a bit.

Yeah, it's too bad Digi won't use the OSX Audio Units Driver, then it'd be smooth sailing when there was a new release. I guess they can't use it because it doesn't fit into their business strategy. Using the AU driver would allow as many tracks as the computer could handle (hundreds) and allow you to use non RTAS plugins.... We'll have to wait for Digi to develop their own audio driver for Tiger, and hope it's a better than the Digi driver we've been using up till now.

Neither is anything else for that matter, any OS, sequencer, etc...
I mentioned it before, there's nothing about Tiger that makes jump out of my seat and want to install it ASAP. All these peeps showing discontent to have to wait 6-8 weeks for Digi to catch up makes me chuckle.
