Unhappy Dialog box reads: "Could not allocate space for recording"

I went to transfer some audio and clicked record and got this error. Changed allocation time and nothing changed. Restarted several times nothing. This is happening on all new tracks. This just started today for some unknown reason. External hard drive has 850 GB internal hard drive has 185GB. Help!

Try making a short selection, ie 30 seconds. Then hit record. Does that work?

You mean in preferences? Did you set it to something small, like 5 minutes?

850/185 FREE space?

And, you ARE recording to the external disk, you have the session folder there?

Yes in the preferences; I set it to 10 minutes.

I am saving to the external hard drive that has 850 gigabytes of space left, session folder is there.

Internal has actually195.4 gigabytes left.
