Default spdif out on 003 factory

Hello. I can't seem to get a signal to my monitors using my spdif(rca) output. I understand the digital outputs default to mirror analog out 1&2 and I've selected the correct digital source (rca) in PT I/O setup. My Roland DAW works fine with the monitors, therefore, I think the problem is either the 003, or PT. Any ideas?

I had the same problem and then i figured it out. Under Setup->I/O in Protools change the Output path main L/R to out 7/8 (SPDIF outs). Also, make sure under Setup->Hardware you have SPDIF selected.

Regards,

Mike

I believe that the SPDIF outs do NOT mirror the main outs as you said(this was the case with the 001). You will need to make the assignment manually.

I think Albee is right (I wish those would still mirror as the 001 did though ).
As alluded to, make sure said I/O is selected under setups. I usually just hit "default" for both inputs and outputs under "setups" and that put me in good shape with my I/O configuration(s).

Regarding this (and my rant for the week) why can't this setup I/O configuration be "remembered" and constant from, and when opening sessions, session to session (or when creating a new session? Unless said session is saved with a particular I/O I'm always going into setups I/O -at least on a 002R PT. 7.4) I suppose it has to open with the I/O the session was originally saved with. How annoying. Am I missing something?

Make a session template. It will hold your settings. It is very handy to start with for every new session. See the first 3-4 accelerated videos on the digi website..

Thanks! I'm going to do that for new sessions. I still wish once I/O parameters are set when, and after, PT is up and running it would open existing/older session with that set I/O. Thanks for the tip though.. kinda spaced that out

Thanks for the help. After I wrap up my current project, I'll get back on it. I did go back to my docs and found in my "Getting Started Guide" (pg 58) it makes the quote "spdif out channels always mirror the main outs 1-2". I thought I read that somewhere.. I'll double check the routing.

Thanks again

To route a Pro Tools output channel pair to multiple audio interface output ports:

1 Choose Setup > I/O.

2 Click the Output tab.

3 Click the Output selector for an interface channel pair, just below an audio interface icon.

4 From the pop-up menu, select a physical port pair (such as Analog 1–2) to route to the corresponding Pro Tools channel pair (such as A 1–2) in the Path Name column on the left.

5 Start-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) the same Output selector and select an additional output pair from the same pop-up menu. The output name updates with a plus sign (“+”) before it to indicate that multiple output ports are selected. In the pop-up menu, each physical port pair assigned to that Pro Tools output pair is indicated by a check mark.

6 Repeat the above steps to select additional output destinations.

7 Click OK to save changes and close the I/O Setup dialog.
