Default "Can't locate hardware" error

I have PT 9.0.6 and Mbox 3 running on Windows 9. Mbox control panel connects fine.

Pro Tools 9 appears to start loading (i.e. iLok OK), but once DAE loaded I get the dreaded "Can't locate hardware" error message. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled twice. This involves loading from original disc, and then applying 9.0.6 update.

I had been using it on this HP EliteBook HP8540w for a few months. It did seem to work OK, although sometimes I had to make sure to plug it into the right USB slot.

One other thing: Windows 7 never starts if the Mbox is plugged in when booting.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

I uninstalled iLok and PT completely, then reinstalled up to 9.05.

Things were even worse - now PT would exit silently after a few seconds without even an error message.

I decided to try 9.06 update. I also cleaned up the start up and services (I have a separate user for ProTools with Admin privileges with optimized configuration per PT recommendations).

I found what appeared to be a duplicate but identical entries in the registry for Avid MME. So I disabled one of these.

And now it works!

Start a new thread. Describe your problem and include the following:
What have you tried?
What hardware is connected(whether interface or not)?
Complete details on the computer(a sisoft "Sandra Lite" report is ideal)
DO NOT USE CAPS LOCK(thank you very much)
