Distorted audio from OMF

Greetings to u all

I received an omf file from a picture editor who's been working on Final Cut. The alignment tone on the bars at the beginning of the edited picture is @ 0 dB in my PT session, and many dialogs are distorted. so I went back to him to check the level on his Mac, They were just fine( -18 dB) and I asked him to give me an AIFF file that contains all dialogs and tones as a mono track. Surprisingly the levels turned out as in FC w/out any problems.
I've had several omf files from FC Editors but nothing like that.
How could I solve this?

I've seen some problems if an OMF was delivered in 24 bit.

Check that.

I already checked that. the audio is 48k/16bit
What we've tried sofar is;
different samling rates/bits
different fader gain( +6/+12 dB)
The result is always same...

and a small detail
the audio in the PT region is french. he uses the french version of FC, I don't think that has anything to do with the level..
