Default Hot signals to digi002 pre\'s - clipping problems?

I'm in the market for an interface. I have a dual G5 2.5 Ghz, I was thinking about getting digi002r.

Some one on here said that there are complaints about the pre's on the digi002, and that they don't handle hot signals like those from drums very well, or something to that accord.

Has anyone had any problems with the pre's on a digi002 for micing drums or other loud sources?

Thanks,
-Jon

depending on your overall choice of mic placement and mics you can get away but you might want a pad for certain things.

If you plan on recording drums, you will likely end up with an 8 channel external pre which will solve this problem anyway. Only 4 mic inputs on the 002r so plan on a Presonus DigimaxLT, M-Audio Octane or similar into the lightpipe input. It should all work great and the external mic pre's may even sound a bit better than the stock pre's.
