Can you not sue him in England? I don't know ho much he owes you but if you file a law suite with the English the court will demand that he shows up for a hearing in England (that is where you are are you not?). So at the very least, he has to fly back to Europe and confront your law suite in court. If he does not show up, you automatically win and the court will order him to pay. I think that as long as he is a resident and citizen of England, he can not just "escape" to the US and not pay his bills.

I know of a case (I was told about this I was in no way involved so I do;t know how true it is or the details) where a director fired the DOP on day one of a 15 day film shoot (they were shooting in Canada) but the director was a resident and citizen of a European country. The DOP filed a law suite for "wrong full dismissal" in a Canadian court and the director was "ordered" by the Canadian court to fly back from where she was in Europe to attend the hearings in court. The DOP ultimately won that case and the director was ordered to pay the DOP for the full 15 days (as if she had worked the full film) + damages.

I am not a lawyer but I "think" that the first thing you should do is file papers so that there is a legal trail of the case you are making against this person. I think you have nothing to loose by having your case presented to the authorities.

I am owed what good people earn a month.

UK law is not as dramatic as in the states or as fair to honest minions such as me. The US does not recognise Uk extradition in the same way we do for you guys sadly.

I cannot comment on what is happening here for obvious reasons - but it is much harder in this country to sue for unpaid monies and it is a long drawn out process - but I am a tenacious bugger and will NOT roll over.

In the UK if you employ a solicitor to fight, you will not win those costs back - ever. So it quickly becomes uneconomic to do so. So sending a dreadnought to sink a dinghy is not smart. If you file within the courts then you can win the court costs back.

It is a sickening protracted minefield, but those of you who can read between the lines or contact me off the board will be safe. Spread the word....

good to hear.

To those of you wondering about libel and slander there are 4 things that must be true in order to be sued for libel/slander.

1. it must be a false accusation
2. it must be in print
3. they (people accusing you of libel/slander) must prove malice (that you set out to do them harm in some way, usually reputation)
4. it must not be regarding things made privately.

This is according to US law, and one of my old journalism teachers. All 4 of these must be true, if one if them is not then you can not be sued for libel/slander.

*disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer, just someone with some education in journalism.

The difference between libel and slander, is that libel is made in print.

Only one defense will absolve you from libel or slander:

The Truth.

The difference between being paid or not is treating yourself to a nice ski holiday and buying a new Nikon d7000 because you are not stressed

Happy days
