Default Re: 9129, 9092, 9093 errors

Here is an update from my side. My case is at Avid Engineering in the US ranking on top of the list and is treated with high priority, that's what my support contact said.

In the meantime my dealer wanted to take a closer look at this as well. So i packed my Mac (it is a 2.8 Dual Quadcore Harpertown with 10 GB RAM, bought in January 2008) into my car and went to my dealer. After 2 1/2 hours they where really puzzled and not happy with the results. We could reproduce the error, here is what we did:

-Reproduced the error with the "The legion" demo song at 96/24 on my mac.
- Did everything in the book, trashed prefs, no plugs, zapped PRAM and, and, and with no luck (I know support did this before, but just to make shure)
- Tried the HD Native card on an older Mac (2.6 GHZ, don't know exact model). It was way better, on very small buffer sizes (64 to 128) 90xx errors appeared as well, but higher than 256 we could not force the error.
- Exchanged HD Native card in my mac with a different one, same results as before, 90xx errrors all over, even at 1024/2048.
- Tried a HD 1 Core/Accel card with small buffer (i think we tried 64 and up), errors did not appear.
- We then tried the original demo song "the legion" with 44.1/16 with the built-in audio and where able to play at 32 buffer size. Changed to HD Native and the song would not even start, same on 64 buffer size.

Final statement from my dealer after this: There must be a problem with PCI bandwidth on the MacPro Model i have in conjunction with the HD Native cards. Getting worse at high sample rates (96KHZ) and increasing CPU load /decreasing sample buffer size.

So no solution yet, have to wait for news from AVID. My dealer was so kind and lend me an HD1 Core/Accel card so that i am at least able to continue working on upcoming projects.

Hope this helps for some of you. After AVID support now also my Dealer has cleary identified the problem to be a serious issue with HD Native and the MacPro model i (and others) have.

Regards
Bertrand

Great post!
I have a 3.0 Harpertown and see these errors daily.
It sucks, my old combo with non HD9 and this mac was great.
Well, if its the cpu, I will turn it into a video satellite quickly and get another mac...
I will stay tuned to this thread.

A quick update on this - we're still investigating the root cause, but hopefully have a lead on it, though it's tenouous at the moment and will require some further testing.

I know it's painful - the problem here is that we have a ton of systems out there without any issues and the ones that *are* having problems aren't giving us enough clear data about where the problem is occurring. There are several possibilities, some possibly OS related (though that's NOT certain by any stretch, it's simply based on some test info which has not been consistent or conclusive.) and some possibly configuration related (plug-ins may be involved here and that seems like the most likely contributor at this point.).

We'll keep updating as more information is revealed.

Thanks for the update, just wanted to give some additional info regarding Plugins: During the various testing i also encountered the error in a minimal session with two audio and a master track (at 96/24), no plugins. We also disabled all plug-ins on certain sessions and the error was still there, i even deleted all plugs in the folder with no success...

This is key...

The plugins do not have to be instantiated in the session to cause issues.

Obviously it is perfectly possible that a plugin is *not* the root cause of your issues, but for others reading this it's worth making 100% clear:

Quit PT.

Remove ALL third party plugins from the folder (and put them in one marked 'unused')

Trash preferences.... (I always do this manually, rather than using the app available to download from the sticky: reason being if you read the small print it points out that in some cases it won't actually get rid of the problem file... This happened to me, and I thought I was trashing preferences but actually wasn't.... Took me TWO WEEKS to figure it out...!)

Repair permissions

Restart.

Add the plugins back one at a time, rebooting PT each time.

Yep, thanks for making that more clear. Happened to me some time ago with a drum-sampler plugin. Just deactivating did not help, had to move it to unused. I actually did not "delete" the plugs (bad wording), of course i just moved them to unused

No worries..

Sounds like that might have been BPM....!?

There have been a few plugins recently which have brought PT to it's knees... BPM is one of them, and earlier versions of Play also wreaked havoc.

I'm not sure why it would be that PT is so vulnerable to instability caused by plugins... It seemed to start about version 7.3 (although I may be way off...!), but either an out of date version (or in the case of BPM and Play, just poorly coded for RTAS) can really cause some odd behaviour.

Really hope a magic solution comes along for those experiencing issues with HD Native...
