Default 8 HD to 9 HD crossgrade authorization requirements

According to the system requirements for the PT 9 HD software upgrade: http://shop.avid.com/store/product.d...07036370308416 The only thing needed is a ProTools HD software license. However it seems (from reading around) that before you can download 9 you have to give a serial number from HD Core Card. I understand they are verifying that you own hardware, but that is not part of the requirements to upgrade. Am I wrong?

Also does anyone know what the "feature limitations" are when not connected to HD hardware, is it just DSP or does the software drop to just plain PT9 with no CPTK?

This is correct. IT needs to verify the serial on your Core Card, which is easy to obtain using the DigiTest App.

PT9 + CPTK = PTH9 but shows up at PT9 on the splash screen
PTHD9 license (ilok) = PTHD9

Once in PTHD9 you can switch the Audio Card to be built-in Audio or PT Aggregate Driver or PTHD Card, in my case a 192.

Thanks for the clarification, my next question: is it 1 HD upgrade per core card or per owned PT HD license? Can you use the same core card serial # multiple times to upgrade?

Logically I think I know the answer but am wondering if anyone has had success with multiple license upgrades.

I would be interested in that as well as I bought the upgrade but can't download it now. I got mislead by Avid's site (http://shop.avid.com/store/product.d...07036370308416) that only mentions a Pro Tools HD software license (which I own) as a requirement. What should I do now?

No you can't use the same card number.

Also, multiple room facilities beware.
You need to surrender your HD license to gain the PT9. (surrender 7, or 8)

However ilok.com does not take into account what your preferences are (if you have several iloks under same account).
It only recognizes the last deposited HD license (I am assuming)

This morning I wanted upgrade one room, and ilok.com asked for a different room's HD license to surrender. Pretty annoying.

I've read that you can upgrade as many Protools Ilok HD7-8 licenses as you own and they can be attached to the same single HD core card, but I haven't found a proper answer to this... It is important to me as well because my partner and I own more than one HD license to our main HD system... I don't know why avid won't clarify this???

I can clarify for you. We own several HD 7 and HD 8 licenses and when I used the same core card serial number a second time by mistake I got a message that the number was used.

edit: actually I am not sure now. maybe the message was for the code I got in the email.

Wow, this is getting confusing! :-D Is there a way you could double-check your assumption, Mundoz? I think it should be allowed to have multiple licenses with one card as well, but I really would like to get a definitive answer to that!

I asked Sweetwater the other day and they had no idea, I'm guessing it is possible and I think it would be a good thing for Avid at this junction to honor licenses that people bought, especially considering we are talking about HD users... who have made very big investments, perhaps Avid will finally clarify this please?
