HD Native and Apogee
Might I expect no tradeoff in performance between my Apogee 200 with X-firewire cards in PT LE v9 versus Pro Tools|HD Native v9, or is there a clear winner? What it boils down to is: Do I keep what I've already spent money on and get the Complete Music Production Toolkit upgrade, or would I realize substantial benefits by going with the HD Native corecard?
Thanks, Jerry |

Re: HD Native and Apogee
I was thinking the same thing. The Avid native PCIe card is essentially the same concept Apogee symphony PCIe. Except for the avid card was viewed as a way to operate PT HD in native when it was initially announced.
My assumption is that the Avid card will work more efficiently with PT 9, but I would like to hear from an Avid rep. |

Re: HD Native and Apogee
With the Avid card you will need an Avid I/O.

Re: HD Native and Apogee
The new Avid converters sound better and,
it's meant to work seamlessly with PTHD Native

Re: HD Native and Apogee
You can use the Rosetta with the HD Native card if you get the Apogee X-HD card.
Feature wise, it would be pretty much the same as the other way, but with the added stability of PCI, the option for more I/O, and the 64 bit floating point mix engine, which no ones gotten to test yet, because HD Native is just now shipping. From what I've heard about them though, the new Avid HD interfaces sound better than the Rosettas and the AD16x series. |

Re: HD Native and Apogee
Are you sure about this Tom?
I spoke to Apogee tech support, who informed me that the new Apogee I/O will be compatible with AVID HD cards. This was before the Native card was released though. About 2 weeks prior actually.

Re: HD Native and Apogee
Anyone here who got a chance to check out both the new Symphony I/O and the new Avid HD I/O?
Quite curious how the conversion quality of these interfaces compare. Thinking of getting HD Native. But also now with ProTools 9, entire apogee symhpony system (Io+ pci-e card) might also be an option. Still HD native will probably be more rocksteady regarding latency, or not? |

Re: HD Native and Apogee
any apogee interface that can support the X-HD card or the HD card for the Symphony IO will work with PT 9|HD as long as you have the PCIe card installed in your machine. All the apogee cards do is emulate a 192, and the old 192s will work fine with PT 9|HD.

Re: HD Native and Apogee
Check out the Pro audio Review magazines review of the Avid interfaces. Extremely positive reviews.
Also, remember that the apogee I/O's don't always auto switch sample rates. So make sure you manually switch if you work with sessions that could be 44.1 or 48 or higher. |
