Default Re: Jetway JNAF93-Q77 Build HD3 PCIX

Up and running with an HD4 and the Jetway. No negative issues to report.

Put in a fresh SSD for the C-drive, used the Win7 disc image restore method to copy all my files.

Learned that some plug-ins that are authorized to a machine are actually tied to the motherboard, Waves and Melodyne. So I had to rebuild the old machine to grab those, didn't quite plan ahead enough.

cheers all,

dg

Here is the latest update, I just swapped out the CPU for an Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz. Again, no problems just had to do a few Windows updates.

The Build:

Jetway JNAF93-Q77
(Install HD cards in normal order starting with the core card)
Intel Core i-2700k Sandy Bridge 3.5Ghz
(The MB is backwards compatible with Sandy Bridge.)
Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX mSATA 240GB SDD
(I used this as my main OS Drive. It plugs in to the mSATA slot on the MB)
Corsair DDR3 32GB 1600Mhz
ASUS DVD-RW Drive
OS: Windows 7 Pro
RAIDMAX RX-1000AE Power Supply
EVGA GT520 Dual DVI 1G
(installed in PCIe Slot 1)
Universal Audio UAD2-Solo
(installed in PCIe Slot 2)
SIIG 3 port Firewire Card NN-E38012-S3
(installed in PCIe Slot 3)
Western Digital Velociraptor SATA 3 600GB 10,000 RPM
(I installed two of these as my main record drives)
Rosewill BLACKHAWK ATX Mid Tower
(This tower is awesome! It's just slightly bigger than a G5 with usb and usb3 ports on the top as well as a spot to plug in raw hard drives.
You will have to remove two drive cages to have room for the HD cards to fit)

Total Cost: $2009.00 including tax and shipping

Install notes:
I installed all software first, then installed the HD cards.
The HD cards would not show up on Digitest so reinstalled Pro Tools 9HD
from the CD and they all worked! I only mention this because the initial software install was from a download and I'm not sure if it included drivers
for the hardware.

No changes were made to the BIOS other than hard drive boot order

So far the system is working great!

Recently got a Jetway JNAF93-Q77 motherboard with a 3.2 GHz Ivy Bridge i5-3470 and 8 GB of G.Skill Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1600. Using a Corsair CX600M 600W power supply in a Logisys CS4803BK 19" rack mount case and a older Gigabyte HD6770 silent video card I've had for a few years (never used until now). Win7 Professional 64 bit on a re-purposed Crucial M4 60 Gb SSD, two new Seagate Barracuda 1 Tb - 7200 RPM - 64 Mb cache drives for audio.

Spent all day today setting it up which was a bit of a pain. I'm running a HD2 Accel with PT 8.1.1 and 2 UAD1 cards, 192 Analog & 192 Digital. Proper signed drivers ended up being an issue with 8.1.1, took a while for me to find a resolution. All would have been easier if I used PT 10 and UAD2 cards, but I can't afford that right now.

The Newegg specs stated up to DDR3-1333, but the but the manual stated that DDR3-1600 was supported. In the BIOS it had a selection for XMP profile which I enabled. CPU-Z is reporting that the memory is indeed running a DDR3-1600 (PC3 12800) speed with rated timings of 9-9-9-24.

I loaded up "Legion HD" demo session and played with it for a while with no issues at all, even dropping the buffer down to 64 samples. Processor usage is set to 3 at 99%. PCI usage got up to 40% or so and other than most of the DSP being used I had no issues.

Overall this system is very responsive and I am thoroughly impressed. Over the next month I'm going to add two 24" LED monitors to the system and set it up with my Panasonic/Ramsa DA7 console for monitoring. I'll have a better idea of how it's holding up by then, but I don't see any problems. Those of you who are using a more modern version of PT should have no issues at all.

Just an update. Added another Accel card and 8 more GB of RAM. Running 8.1.1 under Win 7 Pro 64 bit and all is good, actually great! HUI mode on the DA7 is working well as is all I/O. I'm very well pleased with this system and amazed a HD3 system with software asset only cost me $800.

Has anyone done any particular bios settings ?
Usually you should set the drive controller to AHCI and disable c States as pert the Avid optimisation and troubleshooting guide.
