Default what guitar amp plugin is the best?

ok, i just got a guitar ( my first one ) and im just going to detune it or " drop d" and use it to lay down chords only. ( because i cant really play the damn thing the right way,, BUT... i discovered that if i detune it, its easy as pie to lay down chords and thats all i want to do anyway, so pourpose served =)

my question is, what are you guys's opinions on effects plugins for guitar? i.e. amplitube etc etc.

im wanting absolute crunching blistering distortion like the kind found in black metal. actually i want this exact distortion if i can find it --->

"Best" is completely and always subjective. What's "best" to one person sounds like complete (expletive deleted ) to another. Real amps are always best (IMHO). Also remember that a lot of a particular "sound" is the way that you play the guitar, so if you suck...

With that said, Eleven Free that comes with Pro Tools is fairly decent for a free plugin, and it's paid version is even better. The paid version is my "go-to" amp sim these days.

I used to be an Amplitube fan; still am for certain things and I would still recommend it (as a close second to Eleven).

Studio Devil BVC is free and fairly decent.

Bottom line; IMHO if you're going to spend money, get Eleven.

Another 11 fan here. Keep in mind that 11 is a fairly broad brush. If your into something very specific it may not work as well as Softubes metal Amp Room or IK's Metal amp rig. Most plugs can be demoed and I strongly suggest do that.

The other thing to keep in mind is that a lot of modern guitar tones are multi amped, multi mic'ed and run through a variety of outboard gear. You may not find that a plug is going to give you exactly what your looking for. Most of them however are pretty good. I'm just trying to say don't let the lack of a perfect brush keep you from painting the picture. Also what sounds great soloed may not be the best thing for the mix.

Ik amplitude metal is on sale for $50 at audiomidi.com right now. It wil give what you asked for. I love ampitube products. The jimi Hendrix is also on sale for the same price.

Also, check out Native Instruments Guitar Rig 4 pro. And they have a separate one that's cheaper called Rammfire, which is developed by the guitarist from Rammstein. They're having a 50% off sale, that might end tonight. Here's the links:

I'm using pod farm platinum 2 it's mega loads of amps, effects, and presets and it all so has bass amps and modals some fine preamps. I've always loved line 6 gear it's great and so easy to use I'd highly recommend this

EJ mentioned that he had recently bought or upgraded to that and I think some one else mentioned it was on sale at (I beleive) AudioMidi. That would be another fine choice for your first guitar amp plugin.

i've tried em all and stick with 11 and Guitar Rig Pro

GRP is more intricate, 11 is more straightforward.

keep stacking rhythm tracks until its heavy enough.

Eleven is one of the better ones. I also really like the Lepou stuff, and the Softube plugin can sound great too once you have the cab/mic dialed in.
