Pro Tools 11 and Focusrite 18i20

I am having problems using my Focusrite 18i20 after using my new Presonus Studiolive series 3 board with Pro Tools. No issues prior to using the Presonus. I was getting the ASIO error and seem to have put that at bay buy not setting the Focusrite as the default hardware on my computer. Now I get horrible distortion when I press play and I have to press play 5 to 10 times before the distortion will quit and I get my tracks sounding like they should. Is this a buffer size issue? All my playback engines are at 64 and I can't change that rate or it won't play at all.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. When I switch interfaces do I have to go into I/O and change the settings to default on input and output and bus? The Focusrite has 20 and the Presonus has 32. The issue with using the Presonus with my files is it will only use a sample rate of 48 and all my Focusrite files are recorded at 44.1. I'm somewhat confused in the settings area.

Yeah so a few things worth checking are the sample rates and the buffer settings

You should really try to use a higher buffer setting like 128 or 264 just for testing purposes.

Also my Presonus board will run at 44.1 and 48k

So you are saying that your able to use the Focusrite as the playback engine but there are still artifacts when playing back? Are both interfaces still hooked up to the computer?

It could be a master clicking issue causing the anomaly......

Also let us know what Version of Windows or Mac and which version of PT

I am not able to get PT to play anything from my Focusrite interface. It keeps giving me the ASIO error no matter what bit rate I use... I also cannot change the bit rate or I get the error. It just won't work at all now.

Check this from the Presonus Forum and this post. Lots of people still waiting for 44.1 support.

If you're on Windows, make sure neither one of your interfaces is the default for Windows sounds/audio, make your onboard soundcard the default.

Hold the "N" key down when starting Pro Tools and see if the Playback Engine Dialogue comes up and choose your interface from there.

PT shows the right interface but it just won't play noting the ASIO is not set up correctly. If I shut down the computer completely it may or may not work..... I'm sooo lost as to why one day it works the next it doesn't...

It's not the sample rate that is the issue I don't think. It doesn't change at all. Focusrite works just fine at 44.1, when PT accepts the ASIO which is the problem.

PT keeps telling me the Focusrite ASIO is not configured correctly. I have no clue what to do or why it will work tomorrow and not today. I have tried everything I can think of and all suggestion but it just won't hook up with the Focusrite ASIO at all today.

I would hit up Focusrite's support for starters. Then, uninstall the Focusrite software and re-install. If you are done with the Presonus, I would uninstall their driver(you can always put it back in later if you need it).


Are you waiting for Pro Tools to open before going to the Audio Engine page? If so, try holding the N key while PT opens so it takes you to the Audio Engine setup early(before PT is fully opened)
