Default Trying to decide on a pre.

So far in my studio the only pre I have is the digimax LT along with the 4 002 pre's. Im looking to buy a nice pre as a front end that I can use on pretty much anything. Im looking at the vintech 1272 and the sebatron 4000. Their both pretty close in price but the sebatron has 4 channels which I really like. After this i would like to save up for a nuemann. Are there any other pre's i should look at?

I have a great river me1nv that I think is fantastic. I use it for everything; vox, guitars, bass di, the works.

I also have an rnp which I like, it's not as good, but a hell of a pre for $500 for 2 channels.

I have the Digimax LT and the Vintech 1272.

I LOVE THE 1272.

I did a "preamp shootout" featuring the Cranesong Flamingo, the 002R pres the Digimax, and the 1272.

So... I have had the chance to play with a Cranesong Flamingo for a couple of weeks ($2850) while waiting for my Vintech 1272 to come in. Thanks to Wind over the Earth in Boulder for loaning me the Cranesong. I decided to line up all my preamps in a shootout. Here is the file 5198 Studios Preamp Shootout Here is the Info: Stereo XY Oktava MK-012 into ---> 1. CraneSong Flamingo (Both fat, iron and combo fat and Iron - more vintage sound) 2. Digimax LT 2:53 3. Digi 002r Preamps 4:00 4. Vintech 1272 (mic'd 5:20, then Guitar DI 8:11 then Bass DI 9:06) ---> Digi002r 24/48

I LOVE the 1272.

well since i have sound replacer i would probably take samples of all the individual drums through the pre first, and when im tracking i would probably send the overheads to the pre. Then i would dub over bass and guitars, so basically everything including vocals.
