Default Same old question: Can I run 2020?

I only have one system so I cant afford to experiment and wind up out of business (It's hard enough as it is).

I have a Mid2012 Mac Pro running High Sierra 10.13.6 quite happily with PT 2019.6.0. It's 2 x 2.4 Ghz 6 Core with 32 Gigs of ram and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1024 mb

Is anyone else with this system running 2020? If not, what would it take to upgrade it until it would run it. I like High Sierra. Hope I could keep it and still make the jump to 2020.

Thanks for any advice!
Steve

Sure, though I'd take it to Mojave if it were me, but otherwise, why not?

Is anyone one else with a similar system as mine running 2020.12 with no problems?

I have a 5,1 Mac Pro running Mojave . . . Just moved to 2020.12 from 2019.something and it runs ok but I've been getting a few more -9173 errors than I was. It also seems to hang a long time when loading UAD plugs during startup.

I'm running a similar system except with a single 6 core 3.46 GHz cpu and 48 gig ram in OSX 10.13.6 and it's running PT 2020.11 no problem. I haven't moved to 2020.12 as I'm in the middle of a commission. Keep in mind if you want to go beyond OSX 10.13.6 you're going to need a Metal compatible video card. There's a few that are available that'll work but if said card is not flashed for a Mac you won't see the traditional boot screen but once booted they work fine.

Curious as to why you’d say that

Quite a few people seem to think High Sierra was less problematic.

I'm on a 5,1 with High Sierra and it's working fine. 12 cores with 48 GB Ram.

I am running latest PT on High Sierra 13.6. Working great here. Install it with your older version of PT. In applications rename the old version then install the new version and check it out.

My experience is the opposite - Mojave very stable on 4 machines I'm running here - plus it's just closer to newer OS so less pain later and fewer compatibility issues. That said, High Sierra seems to work fine on a couple clients' machines.
