Default Automation Question .

Hi All.
So what I need is to be riding a fader & writing the level but be able to "print" or "save" the moves as I go . So for example, if a verse has 4 vocal lines; I'm rolling, I've made moves for lines 1+2 I like . . I want to hit a button/key commend that turns the red auto info just written from red to black without having to stop the transport. .
Any ideas ?

Can't do it AFAIK.

The line goes from Red to Black once you hit stop. It's called a "mix pass". Which is a good thing, as this is what's "undoable" and in the Undo buffer.

What specifically are you looking to do?

If you get moves on lines 1and 2 you like, you can look into Join or Autojoin to "pick up" from where you left off to get rid of things you don't like etc.

Hi Drew.
I guess it's to have a more detailed undo. .
I'm doing this in trim over previous moves.
It's the doing it on the fly that I'm after. .
If automation is written to a point that I like, I have to stop in order to give that piece of work it's own undo stage . . So if I do lines 1,2 & 3 but 3 isn't good, I've lost the move that was there for 3 before .
Am I explaining this . ?

makes sense.

You should work with a dedicated Trim Playlist and have Coalesce set to manual. Then Trim passes will be on their own playlist. That way if move 1 and 2 are good and 3 and 4 aren't you can delete them on that, then coalesce.

make sense?

No, it's not VCA related.

Go to prefs and choose Manual for coalesce Trim auto.

Then in the View/Automation menu, make sure Trim Playlist is checked.

This way, you're writing to the Main auto playlist when in all modes other than Trim. When in Trim mode, your data is stored on a dedicated Trim playlist. This data will stay put until you manually coalesce it.

Makes sense?

Hi Drew.
Yeah, that works. But one still has to stop the transport.
Would be slick to manually coalesce on the fly.
Avid… any chance of implementing ?

What about preview automation and write-to-selected?
