Default PT8 not starting - stuck at DAE Loaded

Ok - first I purchased the upgrade to PT8 and that wouldn't work because of my outdated AMD processor - something about SSE instructions. But I guess I understood it was old and I should probably get with the times. So I upgraded my computer system including my OS - to Vista 64-bit. Now I'm hearing I can't run PT8 because of that!
**There has to be some solution - PLEASE HELP!!!!**
Every time I try to start the PT icon it hangs at "DAE Loaded".

First, why did you get a Phenom? The Intel processors are running rings around them in terms of Pro Tools performance.

Next, why on earth did you get Vista? While Vista 32 Business and Ultimate are qualified with Pro Tools, there are not a lot of Pro Tools users who would recommend anything but XP.

Also, have you installed IE8 on this new system?

Last, we know next to nothing about this new system of yours because you have not posted detailed specifics about it. It's possible that there may be OTHER hardware incompatibilities, but noone here would be able to tell you about it until we know the details.

My intention is not to put you down or anything, but after the incompatibility issue you had in the first place, it really makes no sense to me that you didn't do further research when spending money (actually, wasting money) on your new system.

spk - I do feel worse than I did before - but I actually do appreciate your honesty and reply. I am more of a "weekend warrior" when it comes to ProTools - but you are correct in that I did NOT do my due diligence.

I am running IE8 and these are my sandra specs - thanks again for any input.

+ a million for XP. Also, I would roll back from IE8, as it has been causing many a DUCer problems.
