Default 7.3 - Moans and Groans - track resizing - edit

2 steps forward, 3 steps back...

Very nice addition in 7.3 for dragging the track heights in the edit window... however, the new feature of midi keyboard plays midi notes moved the command for track resizing a midi or instrument track to control-click on the midi keyboard (whereas an audio track or aux simply click on the area to the right of the header to resize) - this is a Very Bad interface choice. Some tracks do one thing when you click, other tracks require a modifier, other tracks play notes when you click, some tracks resize... etc... AND control click is an OS-wide modifier for the contextual menus... so it is a poor choice of modifier for this!

<rant>

Really bad design.

Who approved this interface?

I don't mind a change in the interface, I mind the inconsistency.

There's a book for web designers called "Don't Make Me Think" by Steve Krug, and some of the principles include "things should do what the user expects..."

In this case, very bad design to allow some tracks to resize when other types of tracks play midi.

</rant>

Chris,

I have been asked a few times... unfortunately, I don't have the time or energy to be a beta site...

But thanks for the compliment.

Have you read "Why Software SUCKS...and what you can do about it", by David S. Platt? Or "The Inmates are Running the Asylum" by Alan Cooper?

25 -- why are you hijacking this thread? In a previous thread, I was called a Digi FanBoy -- obviously, I am not... but I am a loyal customer with CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, when appropriate.

In this case, I am discussing ONE SPECIFIC ISSUE -- and you just had to come around and add a low blow re: the website. Talk about keeping the powers that be away from the thread and/or forum!

This is not a general rant thread -- this thread was started to discuss the interface issues of PTHD 7.3 in regards to track sizing. I was hoping the "Guys Who Matter" might read this without having to wade through the noise.

sorry -

Wasn't trying to Hijack anything, I merely agreed with you.

They should read that book...

in the future I'll watch out for not bringing any comparisons to what you write... Very sorry, hope u gonna be OK.

Now you can go on with your thread.....

Speaking of resizing tracks,I noticed that when I tried to duplicate a track they both end up full zoom Xtra large on my screen.
Is that a new feature ?
