Counter Starts 2.5 bars After Playback Begins

Intermittent problem when opening Pro Tools, LE 7.4:

The counter in the transport does not engage until two or more bars of playback has transpired.

A few restarts usually fixes problem.

Any thoughts?

I'm using an iMac Intel running OSX 10.4.11
