Default audio dropping out

I was mixing a song with instruments and a vocalist, and the vocal audio disappeared, even though the signal showed it was there. The other tracks weren't affected. I saved the session, and closed it, and tried exiting but couldn't, had to reboot the computer. Other times it's been acting up is when everything is going along well but then a common plugin is blank when I bring it up, freezing the program.

Pro Tools for me never did this when I ran firewire to my old external hard drive. I'm using a new external drive with eSATA. I downloaded the latest driver for the RAID controller on the eSATA port, and downloaded the latest chipset Intel Software for an internal SATA if I do that. But I'd like to continue using my new external drive with the eSATA cable.

Any suggestions? Maybe it's not related to this at all?

Doug

Default Re: audio dropping out

It took me awhile to navigate Avid to find the Windows optimizations and troubleshooting. But I did find it and am printing it out now. I saw a section on I/O troubleshooting.

Default Re: audio dropping out

The audio on sessions is still dropping out (an audio track goes mute) randomly. A vocal track here, a vocal track there, and instrument here and there. I haven't gone over 32 tracks. The wav file is still active, because if I save and close, and come back into the session it (they) reappear. But they disappear as quickly as I hit a solo button and hit it again, or just hit the play button a couple of times. It's never missed while I'm bouncing files yet, luckily.

I optimized my system and delete databases regularly. I took JoelG's advice when he looked at my Lite Sandra report.

Has anybody had this experience yet?
