Unhappy Pro Tools SE 8.03 - Startup Crash...

I have just purchased an M-Audio Mobile Pre (2nd Gen) and installed the accompanying Pro Tools SE 8.03 on my Macbook Pro with OS X 10.6.6.

After an apparently successful install (and then running the Shockwave Patch), I immediately got a Crash on startup:

Funny thing is, if I create a new user on the same Machine, Pro Tools starts and works perfectly!?!

How can I figure out what the issue is with my standard user profile?

As Pro Tools SE starts successfully in a new user account, the problem must be somewhere in Users/Home/Library.

Try copying your Users/Home/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop and then deleting the contents of the original folder (make sure that the copy has been successful before doing this or you will lose your preferences for all applications). If Pro Tools SE starts, then that at least narrows things down to a rogue preference file at which point you can add files back in batches and restart until you can replicate the crash. If not, something in Users/Home/Library/Application Support may be the culprit.

Thanks for your response Tim. I tried the preferences trick to no avail. :-(

However, I managed to solve the problem myself after watching the Pro Tools Optimization Video for OS X. It recommended turning FileVault off, so I removed FileVault from my standard profile and hey presto it worked!!!

So it seems that removing FileVault is not an optmization for Pro Tools SE, but actually a pre-requiste!

Are you up for a REAL challenge? I bought my wife a M-Audio KeyStudio for Christmas '10. I have not yet been able to get it to work with ProTools 8.0.3! I am a MacAddict and have a mac mini with 3 GB of Ram, plenty of hd space, run Mac OSX 10.6.6. Nothing really unusual about the config....unless there's something I don't know about. Any help would be great. BTW, the KeyStudio works with GarageBand '11.

Can you give more details about what happens, exactly?

Hi,

I have a similar problem,

I have the Pro tools LE 8.0.3 running in a 2.8 GHz Intem Core i7 iMac with 4GB Ram and Mac OS X 10.6.8 system. All this with an M Box 2.

Default Re: Pro Tools SE 8.03 - Startup Crash...

i just purchased the Mobile Pre v.2. the hardware works fine with Garageband, but the Protools SE will not start. This is a ridiculous problem and Avid is negligent in not insuring that their supposed industry standard software works with a new IMac running 10.6.7. Every time I try to start the program I get the "Quickstart Error Message" it crashes and no help is available. I tried the update patch, the Shockwave fix, etc. NOTHING has worked. This is absolutely a deal breaker for anymore Avid products. The Avid tech support is a sham. I am totally disgusted with this piece of s@#*!!! My advice, stick with Apple products.

After reviewing all of the system change recommendations for the Mac to be able to run Protools I realize that Avid didn't engineer Protools to be compatible with the Mac, they expect you to turn your Mac into a PC in order to use Protools. Very disappointing!
