Re: iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?
From what I have seen and heard, there is no upgrade path so you need to order the exact specs you want as that is what you will be stuck with until you retire the machine

Apple and authorised service centres will upgrade the RAM after purchase, but that is all that has been specified at this stage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?
I have added aftermarket RAM on every iMac purchased since 2008. If thats not an option with these new machines, disappointing to say the least.

Re: iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?
It is not.
There is no user accessible RAM slot like the older iMacs. Think of the current 21" iMac's. It's like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?
Right - there is no externally accessible slot on the 21.5 inch current iMacs but you can add ram - OWC has the ram and a video on how to do the job. It's not for the faint of heart though as it requires an almost total disassembly of the computer. As of right now OWC doesn't have an upgrade kit for the iMacPro but they probably will if it's at all possible.

Re: iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?
Hm. 18 cores at 2.2GHz with no slots or 6 cores at 3.47 GHz with slots and bays and a million fans?
Cheese-graters still look pretty nice...

Re: iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?
I'm also thinking about getting one. I would definitely go with the 10 core, 64 gigs, 1TB. There is a geekbench for it and it is outstanding. I'm thinking I will go for the 64 gigs of ram as I plan on using this thing for a long time and I do not want to have to open it up later. Of course it's all moot because no one can use PT on one until we get a high sierra update...

iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?
What exactly is geekbench going to tell you? Lots of users are running Pro Tools on High Sierra. Discussed all over DUC. Not officially supported does not mean will not run, and it should not be too long until it is officially supported.
1TB SSD and so much other stuff... I would be putting in as large an SSD as I can afford and trying to run everything off that. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: iMac Pro Customization Options - Thoughts?
Like Darryl said - We have now High Sierra on one of our nMP in the large control room and on my brand new MBP and everything is running super fast and really stable. No errors like 9173 or 9071 etc ... just runs like a champ on both Macs.
I was in France this weekend with (2 of the top worldwide famous DJ's) who actually are really great guys and not only use arps and VI, they can play stuff and we were recirding vocals and mixing over 175 tracks all day saturday on my MBP for their DJ set saturday night and not one hiccup or anything. We ran all samples and sessions on the internal drive and everything else like a lot of automations and edits all over for drops and rises etc .. lots of plugins and Melodyne 4 which I don't know if it should work on HS yet but it ran superb!! This came with HighSierra so I have only installed PTHD12 and Live9 Suite aswell as the Push2 controller and thats it. No garble ware so I know whats on it. Oh LogicX aswell even though we only use Live9 Suite for midi and writing sessions nowadays and HD12 for mixing in the studio. So. Sorry for this long post, just wanna let people know that this whole High Suerra worries are unfounded if you do everything correctly when you get the computer i.e. Optimizations and installations.
