Have you had a look outside of Pro Tools by just opening the session folder>Audio Files folder on your recording drive to see if they are physically there?

Also try opening your latest backup in the Session folder>Session File Backups folder on your recording drive.

Just to clearify you're referring to a session? as a project is a cloud session. I'm going to assume you don't do backups. It would be real simple to move on if you were able to load the session from your backup drive.

Another good example to why you should do daily backups when you're working on a session.

Open the session - if it is a session not a project - open the Clip List and set it to show the full path of the files. That should tell you where they are.

Did you inadvertently use an external drive for the session files and that external is no longer attached?

Ok it's a session that's missing...not a project...my fault...some of the old session files exist from when I 1st started the tune; but none of the newer renamed files...the session folder is empty...I have combed this computer for these files but once again they seem to have vanished...the song had 10 tracks on it...the old original files only contain the starting of the drum build....man I can't imagine having to completely re record the entire tune....breaks my heart

Can you answer all previous questions really clearly: what was in Session folder>Session File Backups? Did you have an external drive (or network share ore removable media) attached that no longer is? (if so look there).

When was your last manual backup or archive made?

Computer details? Filesystem type? Drive make/model?

You sure all content was in the session folder?

Check the trashcan for your files?

You sure you are searching for the right file names?

How exactly are you searching for these files. e.g. a Mac you should be using find to search for any files with the right file extension, or on Windows the DIR command (with /S option). Don't rely on indexed search utilities like Spotlight or the equivalent on a PC.

^^^^ This.

And did you set the Clip List to show the full path of files so you know where they were saved?

Did you trash prefs. in PT's? If you did that deletes the files.

Trashing prefs does/should not delete session files. Session files are stored outside the realm of Pro Tools preferences.
