Default Compatibility between Dynamics II and Dynamics III

Hi,

I am using Pro Tools 9 HD system.
I got the old session from others.
There are few channels apply Dynamics II plug-in (Compressor II) and other channels apply Dynamics III plug-in (EQ III) in the session

They say they can read both plug-ins but Pro Tools 9 cannot read Dynamics II.
I checked the session with Pro Tools 7 but it cannot read Dynamics III. (read only Dynamics II)

My question is,
- Is it possible to read two versions of Dynamics Plugin simultaneously?
- If it is possible, I would like to know how to read Dynamics II with Pro Tools 9.

ProTools HD 9.0.6
Mac OS X 10.6.8
192 I/O Blueface

Can anyone help me to solve this problem?

Default Re: Compatibility between Dynamics II and Dynamics III

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, it was around PT6.9 / PT7 that EQIII was introduced.

I think DynamicsIII was a little later, which would explain why your installation of PT7 does not load the plug-in (but I could be remembering this incorrectly, with both EQ & Dynamics vIII arriving together, and D-Verb getting the later overhaul???).

Anyway, when the vIII versions were introduced, the old vII versions were moved to :

Mac = Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Digidesign/Plug-Ins (Unused)

or

Windows = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Digidesign\DAE\Plug-Ins (Unused)

So, in order to be able to use both versions simultaneously, you need to move the old vII versions back to the regular plug-in folder, before you launch Pro Tools :

Mac = Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Digidesign/Plug-Ins

or

Windows = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Digidesign\DAE\Plug-Ins

I honestly can't remember if it's possible to save the current settings of the vII plug-in as a preset, and then import it in to the vIII version and save it (for sake of compatibility, moving forward with 64bit versions of Pro Tools, that use the AAX format), so you may have to open both vII & vIII versions of the EQ and Dynamics plug-ins, an manually copy & paste each value individually.

However, the good news is that you can have both vII & vIII 32bit RTAS plug-ins installed, and running simultaneously - so your session should open, and run as intended.

But it would be prudent, as I mentioned above, to transfer the settings from vII to vIII, if you ever want to open these sessions in a newer version of PT, as there will never be version of the vII plug-ins that are compatible with 64bit AAX systems.

Thanks for the answer! :)

I have already moved the plugins to the Folder but it does not work, just shows alert message..

I cannot even try the second solution cuz the plug-in is inactive so I cannot see any setting of the plug-in.

If you know any other reason or solution, please let me know.

Sorry to break the bad news: seems 7.3 with a different OS can do it.

The reason - with some yester-links to clarify:

Pro Tools Software Versions Below 8.0.3 Are Not Compatible With Snow Leopard.
