Default Recommend CD burners for Mac G3powerbook?

I am looking to purchase a CD burner for use w/ my digi001 and pwrbk G3. Firewire? USB? I plan on archiving data from my LE seesions as well as burning audio CD's using toast, jam or something similar. Does anyone have any recommendations/considerations/advice on what type of burner I need to get(speed, brand, USB, firewire, etc.?) I suppose portability and price are also an issue. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks

Jam 2.6 now supports Firewire & USB burners for red-book specs (infact, I just updated today!).

Are you using a Magma chassis for the 001?

I'd definitely go with a good firewire drive.

Go dig around on www.xlr8yourmac.com in the drive compatibility database for comments on FW drives and IDE burners in FW cases.

I put my Yamaha IDE burner in a Pyro firewire case and have had good luck without.

Thanks alot for the input. I am using the magma CB2 expansion chassis to host the digi001 card. I'm thinking of adding another card so I can start writing to SCSI based hard drives(faster, 7200rpm). I'm writing to a firewire 30G right now and believe it or not it's been working pretty well. It starts to slow down w/ a full 24tracks and plug-ins but hey-I'm portable which is nice. I'll look into firewire drives for CD burning.

Thats great to hear! Both the mobile set up, and Nukes firewire burner... Have you had any errors come up at all? Any freezing?

hi...
i'm currently *trying* to use a powerbook (pismo 500, 382 ram) with magma 2 space chasis, and Digi 001 and have had regular problems. there's really no way to tell what's causing the problem so far (but i'm open to suggestions)...
it tends to freeze up in either play or recording... but not every time. sometimes i can track 10 tracks and work for two hours and it all seems fine. the next time, in a new session, i try to record two tracks and it locks the whole powerbook up. same with playback sometimes. it usually happens at the very start of a session, but sometimes 5 minutes into it the machine will freeze.
i've tried various buffer settings in the DAE, i've made sure the disk allocations (and minutes per track) are correct and minimal... different hardware buffer settings and CPU limits... to no avail. i'd appreciate any advice from folks using this setup as to what i might try to fix this...
thanks,
carty www.pleasantstitch.com
