I remember seeing another post where someone had 16 tracks running off the iPod with LE.

I don't know - if your drive gets munched you just killed an MP3 player because you wanted a $400 5GB drive.

I have to admit I am tempted to use my iPod as a drive, but I never will - seems too risky.

Check out that AV ammo thingy if you want a small firewire drive for PT. I wouldn't hesitate to put a few .doc's alongside my MP3's, however.

I would stick to the big guns for PT.

Silverlode - thanks for the clarification!

So, for iPod owning PT'ers, you are now licensed to MUNCH FREELY!

Man, looks like I finnaly posted something of interest...
Hey, the idea of using the iPod as both your MP3 player AND your drive for working on a few things on the road is great!! And that way I don't have to slow my Powerbook down with so many MP3 files.
Thanks for the replies!!

If the hard drive in the iPod does get "munched" it's a simple matter of replacing it with another 2.5 inch drive (of which there are many that are well over 5 gigs). The iPod'd internal OS and functionality have nothing to do with the hard drive that's in there.

Wrong. It's a special drive for the iPod, it is NOT a standard 2.5 inch drive. In fact, a 2.5 inch drive is bigger than the iPod itself, which is 2.44 inches wide on the outside!

STOP MUNCHING!!

For god sakes, man!

Seriously though, after I read the 2.5" post I was looking at my iPod wondering if it could even be disassembled. It appears to be vacuum sealed and super glued and just plain un-take-a-part-able

The iPod can and will play back a session with several tracks.I believe I used save session to... and chose the iPod,selected copy all audio and fade files and wrote the whole session to iPod. I then reopened the session on the iPod and "be there" played back without disk to slow errors. I iPod got pretty warm after playing a few times. I woud recommend it to back up your sessions to take to another studio or practice on the road.
