Poor Performance
I am really concerned about the poor performance of my PT LE 7 setup. I am getting error messages that I am running out of CPU power or that the system held off interrupts for too long. Thing is this is with small sessions. I just did a test of a French horn in Garritan Personal orchestra. I recorded a short 30-40 sec piece with only one sample loaded and it kept stopping and I was getting the arror messages.
I noticed the same thing recently with one instance of Ozone and a single stereo track with a mixed Aif track on it during an attempted Mastering session. Same for a test I did using 3 instances of the Xpand synth, it kept giving me the error messages. I notice when I launch Pro Tools my CPU meter in Utilities goes to around 26% before I even fire up the session with the Personal Orchestra patch. I fire it up it jumps to the mid 30's. That is one stereo Aux track, one MIDI track, one stereo audio track and a Master. The PT LE CPU useage meter hits the red occasionally. I don't know, this version seems very unstable to me. I realize my system is not the latest G5 but my computer is on the supported list. I have tried all the stuff in the general troubleshooting guide. I could not disable NAP. The option was not there. I disabled Spotlight according to Spotless although the Spotlight icon is still blue. It says disabled in the Spotless menu though. I am getting ready to hunker down and do some work in here but I am afraid I am going to run into issues. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I know I sound vague. I suppose I mean, has anyone else had poor performance since going to PT7, on a system similar to mine, and what did you do to correct it? Re: Poor Performance
Have you tested your setup with different playback engine settings? Specifically, have you adjusted the H/W Buffer size and CPU usage limit?

Re: Poor Performance
Yeah sure, tried all that. My profile shows me as a noob, but I am not. I have had Pro Tools for 3-4 years now. Somehow my log in got messed up at the forum and I had to re-register.
Anyway, changing the playback settings will help for a minute but eventually it will poop out again. I tried not going to 99% as I read a post somewhere here or in Answerbase that said not to go that high. I really am curious whether other users are getting stellar performance on G4's with LE7. Can anyone weigh in on that? Thanks.

Re: Poor Performance
I'm having a frustrating time with PT7 and OS 10.4.3 too. I'm hoping to get some answers here. I continually get the error "CPU usage is holding off USB audio. Remove some plug-ings, delete some tracks, or increase the 'H/W Bugger Size' in the playback Engine dialog. (-9136)" This is totally annoying!
I've been a ProTools user for 6 years now and I've never been more frustrated than I am now. I'm using ONE plug in at the moment - SampleTank2 with ZERO audio tracks and I can't play a simple midi track back without getting this error. Any pointers would be appreciated. Re: Poor Performance
gkh - have you tried this with Pro Tools Playback Engine set to '1 processor'? What version of Sampletank are you running?

Re: Poor Performance
Yes, I tried 1 processor and it didn't seem to make any difference. I'm running SampleTank2.

Re: Poor Performance
That's kinda what I am getting also gkh. I realize these apps like Ozone, GPO and soft synths like SampleTank and Xpand are CPU hogs. But this is crazy!
And when you factor in that with only a few tracks and perhaps 3 Dverbs and a Smack LE here and there, I am getting the error messages...very frustrating. Digidesign, I noticed you replied addressing gkh and not myself who started this thread. Please, do you have any ideas for me? My computer is on the accepted list for the product I bought. It should work without pooping out all the time. Ever since I went to Tiger and PT LE 7 I have been having problems. Is this something that can be addressed? Anyone notice the thread over on the Windows side where the guy is getting over 400 Dverbs in a session with 31 track record enabled and armed, and 160 Aux tracks? This is on a Quad computer he built.
