Wasn't there an issue where the automation would be overwritten for the entire timeline and it wouldn't undo? I remember going back to Session Backups at one point. Maybe I'm confusing issues.
No, it was always undoable, but usually you dind't notice before your 32steps of UNDO were gone.

That sounds like something I would do. An undo history list would be nice.

You mean like the one under windows/undo history? It shows all your 64 undo steps and you can set if it includes automation moves or not.

Haha I honestly forgot about that window, I never have it open. I have a few window configs I switch between, maybe I should find a space for it.

Thanks for the wake up

Back to the OP, I liked "Guardian Angel". I wasn't aware it was compatible with 11.

I think we should all campaign for Frank's eminently sensible suggestions of logic and not accept this conservative band aid of a solution.

Sorry Avid, but it really shows you are not agile enough. If you make a mistake, hold your hand up and correct it, stop getting bogged down in committees.

Do you think we like the preference section? You are getting there with the IO section and have shown some innovation and "software remorse", do the same with the automation! Listen to your customers and get some agility back. it's what makes modern companies work!

Mike and others, maybe you would find my IdeaScale suggestion worth supporting. I think it could be a much nicer method of managing automation events. http://protools.ideascale.com/a/dtd/...st/204061-3779

Default Re: 12.2.1 Automation Improvements

did anyone actually try this new "feature"/fix?
I installed 12.2.1 and everything is the same as always... no selection before playback - automation is written to entire session.
couldn't find a preference setting or anything.

so if this new thing didn't actually make it into this version, maybe change the functionality - as Frank mentioned earlier ( and probably the last 10 years) - to "Write to Selection" as it says on the button.

to prevent a "**** storm" from users that use the previous behaviour everyday, add a function that writes the entire session while holding the option key or something similar.

Thanks!

Ultimately I'd like this to be implemented:

http://protools.ideascale.com/a/dtd/...ng/118092-3779

Would improve and fix a lot of issues on the same ticket.

I think the way they made it (can't check. Don't have 12) is that you only get warned when you made a selection while playing and then hitting write to selection while still playing. They did this to keep the write to all feature when no selection is made in stop.

Not bad not but not great either since it assumes that the write to all thing is done intentionally all the time which is isn't.

In my case I'd say I use that as a feature in 0.000000000001% of all clicks on the write to button.
