Default bounced files longer than on timeline

I'm de-noising lots of stems and tracks for a tv production. To not bog down my system completely I try to bounce stems and then replace the original audio file with the bounced one. ONLY, the bounced stems are all longer than the original. Way longer actually: a one minute long file comes back 6 sec longer.
All files were imported via omf from Final Cut as they were, 48k 16 bit. My session in 48k 24 bit. I made sure timecode is identical (29.97 drop).

Why are my bounced files longer. Any help is very much appreciated, thank you!

The mystery deepens:

in the scenario described before the way I put the file back into a new track was by dragging it there from the folder.

Now I tested the same file by 'importing' it via 'importing audio file' and now the length is exact and correct.

Of course I'm happy that I can keep on working BUT:

why is that so? What setting do I have wrong that this happens....?

Anybody ?

Are you highlighting the exact part of the timeline you want to bounce? IOW, if you highlight a 30 second piece of audio, then bounce, the bounced file SHOULD be 30 seconds long. If its NOT, then maybe there is a bug(so which exact version are you running?)

Yes, I highlight an exact amount of time. I'm using PT 8 LE.

Hi there,

I just hat the exact same problem! My session however is 32 bit float (and it's the first time I'm using this), but apparently the problem has nothing to do with the bit depth. And I'm on PT 10.3.3.

OK, I found the solution.

The preference "Drag and Drop From Desktop Conforms to Session Tempo" was set to "All". I was under the impression that this is was only valid for tick-based tracks, but obviously it's not.

Why are you using Dropframe?

Could it have to do with sample rate?
If you drop a 48khz file onto a 44,1khz session without doing a sample rate conversion, it will take up more space on the timeline.

My guess is that the OP had set the same wrong preference as I had.

Hi,

The OP has answered and found the issue which was drag and drop files from desktop conforms to session tempo etc. the tracks were converted to elastic audio and synced with the session tempo and changed length.
