192's AES card won't work in 96?
Is it true that the 8 ch. AES card from a 192 will NOT work in a 96 I/O?

correct, the 96 is what it is when you bought it and were never in box expandable

Same goes with 192 digital, it cannot be modified. Only old blue Digidesign box with any flexibility was the king-of-the-hill 192 analog.
Thank God now there is only one Avid HD box with whatever expansion combination you choose to buy.
