Default Midi recording early (and missing the first note)

Protools 6.4.1 TDM MIX.
Win XP SP3
Yamaha Motif XS USB
Asus PC-DL.
When I press F12 and try to record (or any other method), I notice that the first mdi note is not recorded.
All the other notes are though.
Apart from this the midi timing is superb.
This does not happen in Nuendo 4 or Abelton 7.
Any ideas?
Could it be the yamaha usb midi drivers?
Does the same thing happen with say midi i/o on the command 8 (which I am getting shortley?)
regards,
James
